This notice serves to inform our customers of the Phasing out of Cheques as a payment instrument within the National Payment System by 30 June 2019.
Cheque customers should take note of the following events and actions as deliberated by the Namibian banking industry together with Bank of Namibia:
1 January 2019 is regarded as the last day for all banking institutions to stop issuing cheque books to customers;
1 February 2019 is the last day for customers to tender a cheque as a means of payment for goods and services;
The customary six months' validity period of a cheque from date of issue is was repealed by this Public Notice;
24 June 2019 will be the last day for customers to deposit a cheque as a payment instrument provided the cheque is dated 1 February 2019 or prior;
Any customer in possession of a cheque dated beyond 1 February 2019 should engage with the drawer of the cheque to arrange for an alternate payment method in replacement of the cheque in possession;
Bank Windhoek will not accept cheques for processing after 24 June 2019;
29 June 2019 is the last day for interbank clearing of a cheque as a payment instrument.
Kindly make use of alternative methods of payment such as Internet Banking, Mobile App, Cellphone Banking, EasyWallet and your Bank Windhoek Visa Debit and Credit Card.
