On Tuesday, 28 July 2026, Bank Windhoek announced the permanent appointment of Leon Koch as Executive Officer of Retail Banking Services, effective 1 July 2026.
Koch, a seasoned banking and insurance executive with more than 35 years of experience, will lead one of the Bank’s key customer-facing portfolios. Retail Banking Services comprises all Bank Windhoek branches and agencies, including the Vehicle and Asset Finance and Property Finance branches, both of which play an important role in supporting individuals, families and businesses across Namibia.
Since joining Bank Windhoek in 2017, Koch has been a valued member of Bank Windhoek’s executive leadership team. During this time, he has held several senior leadership roles, including Executive Officer at Capricorn Private Wealth, Commercial and Bancassurance, and, most recently, Executive Officer at Business Banking. He has also acted as Executive Officer for Retail Banking Services and Capricorn Private Wealth, demonstrating steady leadership, commitment and resilience while carrying multiple responsibilities.
Bank Windhoek’s Managing Director, James Chapman, said Koch’s appointment strengthens the Bank’s focus on delivering practical, responsive and relationship-led banking solutions. “Leon Koch brings deep market knowledge, proven executive experience and a clear understanding of what customers expect from a proudly Namibian bank. His leadership will be instrumental as we continue to enhance customer experience, grow trusted relationships and deliver solutions that support the financial aspirations of our customers,” Chapman said.
Koch’s career spans personal, commercial and branch banking, as well as senior management and executive roles in Namibia and the broader African region. Chapman added that Koch’s extensive industry knowledge, practical understanding of the local market and customer-centred approach position him well to guide Retail Banking Services through its next phase of growth.
His background in academic and professional development further underscores the depth of his experience in the role. Koch holds a Master of Science in International Banking and Finance from the University of Salford, Manchester, completed through Salford Business School in Zurich. He has also completed the Senior Management Development Programme at GIBS University, Pretoria, and the Management Development Programme at the University of Stellenbosch Business School.
