The awards are aimed at giving credit to individuals, institutions, publishers and companies who have made a significant contribution towards the Afrikaans language by keeping it modern and trendy.

Various awards such as the Afrikoon, Pluimpies, Donsies and Veertjies will be handed over to contestants according to the different categories. The highest special award will be the Oorkonde.

Bank Windhoek Idioms Competition

Hosted by the ATKV and NBC's Hartklop FM, the Bank Windhoek Idioms Competition will see 22 teams from 11 different schools compete with each other Wednesdays at 14:30 on NBC's Hartklop FM.  In 2018, two learners from Gobabis Gymnasium, Karlien Visser and WP Oosthuizen, won the competition during the radio recorded final held at the NBC's Hartklop FM studio in Windhoek.

This year, the finals are scheduled for September and the public is welcome to attend. The date will be announced on the radio and ATKV's Facebook page.

In its 15th consecutive year, the Idioms Competition allows learners from the competing schools to challenge each other in various categories, which includes completing Afrikaans idioms, forming new idioms with key words and a rapid fire section where the meaning of idioms are given.

The aim of the competition is to promote the Afrikaans language and to familiarise school learners with Afrikaans expressions and idioms. Schools are allowed to enter the competition with a team of two learners per school.

“A proud Namibian bank, Bank Windhoek will continue to invest and add value to the communities where it is active. As a result, the Bank encourages all Namibians to come and participate in these exciting ATKV initiatives," said Bank Windhoek's Head of Corporate Affairs, Hayley Allen.
