After a three-month break, the Bank Windhoek Fistball League will return at the coast’s Swakopmund Fistball Club (SFC) this weekend, from 8:30.
In the National A League, the reigning league champions, Cohen Fistball Club (CFC 1), are at the top of the table with 27 points. CFC only needs one more win to secure first place in the playoffs. Participating teams cannot take second place away from Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW 1), who could take up the first spot if CFC 1 loses three games in a row. The hosts, SFC 1, are in third place with eight points, followed by CFC's Reserve team with six points.
The match day in the National B League promises to be an exciting affair, since only three teams can qualify directly for the playoffs in October, close matches are expected. Six teams still have a chance of direct qualification. A fourth team can advance into the semi-finals of the B League playoffs in a round-robin of the last four teams. The best prospects are for the teams ranked in the first to third spots, namely SKW 2, SKW 4 and SFC 2, respectively. Each team is only two points apart. However, SFC 2 still has a game in hand, which will be played against the guests CFC 3 on this match day.
In the Under 18 category, SKW A leads the pack with 18 points ahead of second-placed SFC A, which has 14 points. In the current season, SKW A has always been able to defeat SFC A. Whether SFC A will use its home turf advantage remains to be seen. SKW B remains in third place with six points, while SKW C is in fourth place with zero points and is still waiting for their first points. In the playoffs, the first-place team plays against the fourth-placed outfit, while the third-placed squad plays against the second-placed side in a semi-final.
End.
